Description
SS-31 (elamipretide) is a cell-permeable tetrapeptide that concentrates in mitochondria and binds cardiolipin, the signature lipid of the inner mitochondrial membrane.
By stabilizing cristae architecture and electron-transport efficiency, it became a leading clinical-stage probe of mitochondrial dysfunction, with published work spanning heart failure, mitochondrial myopathy and ischemia-reperfusion models.
