Description
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a partial sequence of Body Protection Compound, a protein identified in human gastric juice. It is notable for its stability in gastric conditions, which made it an early candidate for gut-focused research.
The preclinical literature — largely rodent work — has examined BPC-157 across an unusually broad set of repair models: transected tendons and ligaments, muscle crush injuries, gastric ulceration, colitis, and intestinal anastomosis healing. Proposed mechanisms under study include modulation of growth-factor expression, angiogenesis, and nitric-oxide pathways. It has no completed human clinical trials and no regulatory approval anywhere, which is precisely why it remains an active research subject.
