AICAR is a cell-permeable AMP mimetic that activates AMPK, the master energy-sensing kinase — one of the classic pharmacological tools of metabolic research.
Decades of literature use AICAR to model the signalling effects of exercise and energy stress: glucose uptake, mitochondrial biogenesis and endurance-phenotype studies in rodents. Its status as a reference AMPK activator keeps it in constant laboratory use.
