Melanotan II is a cyclic, truncated alpha-MSH analogue with broad melanocortin-receptor activity — less selective than Melanotan I, which is precisely its research interest.
Beyond MC1R-driven melanogenesis, its engagement of MC3 and MC4 receptors connects it to appetite and sexual-function pathway studies in animal models; the MC4-selective drug bremelanotide is its direct descendant.
